Yahoo Inc has certainly been on a breeze lately, from buying up micro blogging platform tumblr to acquiring several other platforms, Marissa Mayer and her teams at Yahoo don’t plan on taking any prisoners. Yahoo in a statement last month said they would be introducing a new yahoo logo but keep the infamous exclamation point.
This year can be termed as the year of brand identity redefinition as top tech companies, Motorola, eBay,Microsoft andbrand identity best practices, and all these top companies seem to have followed our brand manual to the latter.have all introduced new logos. I wrote a post recently on
Words from the CEO, Marissa Mayer:
“So, one weekend this summer, I rolled up my sleeves and dove into the trenches with our logo design team: Bob Stohrer, Marc DeBartolomeis, Russ Khaydarov, and our intern Max Ma. We spent the majority of Saturday and Sunday designing the logo from start to finish, and we had a ton of fun weighing every minute detail”.
I have been watching the whole logo revamp from start to finish and even thought about weighing in with a logo of my own after seeing what the guys at 99designs (crowd-sourcing a new logo) and Survata (consumer survey about the most popular yahoo logo revamp day) did with the whole exercise. It made me remember when I put together our 4 Important factors that influence Logo Designs list while designing the logo we use for the agency now.
Now after 30 days of what can be described as one of the most social logo revamps, the company has finally settled for what will be its new logo going forward. The new logo still retains its familiar purple colour and exclamation point.
We have done a collage of all 30 logos used by Yahoo this past month. Do you think they made the right choice? Or do you have another favourite from the collage? Do you like logo 1 better? How about logo 5 or perhaps logo 17? We love comments, so share your views.
